Gerhard Schröder rejects honorary citizenship of the city of Hanover – politics

Former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder (77) renounces the honorary citizenship of his city of Hanover. He informed the city’s mayor, Belit Onay (Greens), on Tuesday in a letter that he also published on the LinkedIn business network.

Curious: Schröder deleted his post after just a few minutes.

Schröder in his brief letter: “I received your letter of March 11, 2022. After that, the City Council of Hanover should revoke my honorary citizenship.”

The former chancellor anticipates this step, however, and continues to write: “I irrevocably renounce the honorary citizenship of the city of Hanover.”

Why Schröder deleted his post again: unclear. What the gas lobbyist and Putin friend achieved on his trip to Moscow: also unclear.

Because since his return he has remained silent about his meeting with Kremlin tyrant Vladimir Putin (69) and his appointment of several hours with oligarch Roman Abramovich (55).

The federal government and Schröder’s party have not yet received any information about Schröder’s talks in Moscow. SPD leader Lars Klingbeil (44) said, however, that he assumes that Schröder will comment on this soon.

In the RTL/ntv program “Frühstart”, Klingbeil said: “Personally, and as far as I can see, the Federal Chancellery too, we have no information about what came out of this visit.” Klingbeil continues: “He will certainly explain himself, because there is of course also interest among the German public in what the former chancellor is doing there.”
