Geretsried: Bomb found, evacuation in progress – Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen

An old World War II bomb was found on Monday at a construction site on Dompfaffenweg in Geretsried. Around 1,500 to 2,000 people within a 150-meter radius had to leave their homes to defuse them. The evacuation was completed around 4 p.m., then the demolition manager could begin defusing. At 6:57 p.m. it finally reported: “Bomb defused!”. The ordnance disposal service took care of the removal of the individual parts.

For people who could not find accommodation with family, friends or acquaintances, the city had made available the Ratsstubensaal on Karl-Lederer-Platz and the gyms of the Isardammschule and the school center on Adalbert-Stifter-Straße. The residents were informed via loudspeaker announcements from the fire brigade driving through the area. Mayor Michael Müller (CSU) did not take part in the district council meeting because of the bomb alarm, but visited the people housed in the public rooms.

The bomb from the Second World War weighed 150 kilograms and contained 15 to 20 kilograms of explosives, according to the police. According to the police, a removal was not possible, the defusing had to take place on the spot, it said. The safety area set up around the site was determined by the demolition engineer to be around 150 meters.

A bomb had to be defused on Dompfaffenweg last year. It was discovered on April 21st. Basically, this problem is always expected in Geretsried during construction work in certain areas. The Nazis operated two large ammunition factories at this location. Towards the end of the Second World War, on April 9, 1945, the US Army flew an attack on the armaments plant of Dynamit Aktien Gesellschaft (DAG) in what is now Gartenberg. According to research by the Geretsried Historical Working Group, there were 76 American aircraft and escort escorts that dropped 2,078 bombs.
