Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, is expected this Monday in Marseille to come and lay the first stone of the future headquarters of the Raid (Research, Assistance, Intervention, Deterrence). It will be located in the area of the large seaport.
There are seven regional Raid headquarters in metropolitan France, in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Rennes and Strasbourg. The Raid, like its equivalent among the gendarmes, the GIGN, specializes in the most delicate interventions, arrests in the middle of organized crime, hostage taking, arrest of madmen and the fight against terrorism.
