Geothermal energy: Free State lets municipalities down – district of Munich

Numerous municipalities around Munich invest hundreds of millions in geothermal energy, but the Free State leaves them alone with the risks. In Pullach, the economics minister once again reiterated the inactivity complained about by the Greens.

Not much was missing and the geothermal energy pioneers in Unterhaching would have perished at their power plant. The community lost millions. The rescue came from Grünwald, where thanks to the bubbly trade tax revenue, the Unterhachinger plant could be incorporated into their own geothermal company. The case is now seen as a striking example of how a mayor and local council not only receive fame and glory for investing in zero-carbon and secure energy, but also risk ruining their community. For years, the municipalities and geothermal energy associations have been calling for the federal and state governments to hedge against the major risks. But to this day one feels misunderstood and forgotten.
