A clear majority of citizens in the EU are in favor of investing more in their own defence. This is shown by a Europe-wide survey by the think tank European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). 74 percent of respondents in 11 countries believe Europeans should be less dependent on US security guarantees; only eight percent assume that the United States would “always” protect Europeans. The data will be released this Wednesday and was the Süddeutsche Zeitung as well as an accompanying study.
