Genesis has just arrived on the European market, so the noble Koreans are suggesting that they too will primarily rely on electric models in the future.
After some back and forth at the headquarters of the Hyundai Group and the ongoing corona pandemic, Genesis only launched on the European market with a significant delay. And since the G80 / GV80 and G70 / GV70 are the first Genesis models to roll on the streets here, the first electric models are already being announced. “When we started in Europe, we committed to bringing three electric cars to the region within the first year,” explains Dominique Boesch, Managing Director of Genesis Motor Europe. “We are proud that the GV60 is our second electric car for Europe will be shortly after the introduction of the electrified G80. “
The two most recent creations of the electric Genesis GV60 and the X Concept show exactly where the electric journey is going. The 4.52-meter-long Genesis GV60 is based on the electric platform on which the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 models are also on the move. The look of the Genesis GV60 is closely related to that of the Kia EV6, which will also be on the variable Electric-Global Modular Platform from the end of the year. In contrast to the Kia EV6, the GV60 offers the well-known Genesis design features with quad lights at the front and rear. A wide grille below the quad lights dominates the front view. The GV60 will be the first Genesis model to have digital exterior mirrors.
“The GV60 is our first electric car with its own platform and a particularly dynamic design – Genesis is clearly positioning itself in the direction of electromobility. With its powerful appearance and special vehicle features that also appeal to customers emotionally, the GV60 sets a new standard for electrics -Luxury class, “explains Genesis chief designer Jay Chang. Inside there is a tidy cockpit with two twelve-inch screens and a head-up display. Thanks to the approximately 2.90 meter long wheelbase, there is plenty of space inside. Each model has a 77.4 kWh battery. The rear-wheel drive version has a maximum range of 450 km per charge and has a 168 kW / 229 hp engine with a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The all-wheel drive version is equipped with a 160 kW / 218 PS motor for the rear wheels and a 74 kW / 100 PS motor for the front wheels, which corresponds to a total output of 234 kW / 318 PS and a maximum torque of 605 Nm, while the maximum Range is 400 kilometers.
The top model has two 160 kW motors on the front and rear axles, which deliver a total output of 320 kW / 435 hp and 605 Nm, with the charging station returning after almost 370 kilometers. A special boost mode gives the sporty GV60 additional dynamics for ten seconds and an image spurt from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.0 seconds. The Genesis GV60 uses a 400/800 volt multi fast charge system that increases the 400 volts supplied by the charger to 800 volts. With a charging capacity of 350 kW with the quick charge function, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. In addition, the normal charging time has been reduced by increasing the charging power from 7.2 to 11 kilowatts. If necessary, the V60 can also be used as a mobile power source. It has a vehicle-to-load function with which its battery can charge other electronic devices with 3.6 kilowatts.
After the announcement that the G80 will also be launched as an electric version, many customers are already looking forward to the series implementation of the Genesis X Concept. The elegant study of the X Concept celebrated its official world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show in spring. “The car is a concept vehicle that embodies the essential elements that Genesis pursues in its designs,” says Jay Chang, Genesis CEO. Unusual: while the sliding cover hides the charging connector, the charging connector itself is framed and highlighted by two rows of lights. The study of the electric Genesis X is the brand’s fifth concept vehicle after the New York, GV80, Essentia and Mint models and is intended to lead Korean carmakers into an electric luxury future in which the Koreans are a real opponent for the European premium manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes are.
