Gender ban in Bavaria: symbolic politics that doesn’t solve any problems – Bavaria

Gender discrimination is no longer allowed in Bavarian authorities, schools and universities. The Bavarian state government decided this. Multi-gender formulations that require a special character, such as a colon or an asterisk, are no longer allowed to exist. The CSU justifies this by saying that gender language narrows the discourse in a free society and that there is a perceived pressure to speak like this.

Criticism of the ban comes from many quarters: the CSU is waging a culture war, say the Greens. SZ chief reporter Roman Deininger says this culture war is important for the party because many voters reject gender.
