The German Locomotive Drivers’ Union (GDL) has once again called on Deutsche Bahn (DB) employees to go on a nationwide strike on Tuesday, March 12th. The restrictions are again affecting passengers on the Munich S-Bahn.
The 24-hour strike on passenger transport lasts from Tuesday morning at 2 a.m. to Wednesday at 2 a.m. As the DB announces, despite the short lead time, there should be a basic rail service again.
As with the recent strikes, an emergency timetable applies to the S-Bahn: All S-Bahn lines run at least every hour: Line S1 runs between Ostbahnhof and Freising every 60 minutes and does not go to the airport. The S2 runs between Markt Schwaben and Dachau every 20 to 40 minutes, and on the other sections every hour. The lines S3, S4, S6 and S7 run every hour.
The S8 line runs between Pasing and the airport every 20 minutes, between Pasing and Germering every 20 to 40 minutes and between Germering and Herrsching every 60 minutes. The S20 is no longer available.
The Munich S-Bahn points out that there are also construction-related disruptions: On the night of Wednesday, March 13th, construction work will take place on the main route from 9:40 p.m. to 4:40 a.m. During construction work, the S6 will be the only line running between Ostbahnhof and Pasing. On the same night, there will be a replacement service on line S7 between Perlach and Kreuzstrasse from 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
The DB once again advises against unnecessary trips during the GDL strike and to postpone planned trips to another time. Information on the operating situation is available on s-bahn-muenchen.de or in the Munich Navigator app.

Airline passengers also have to be prepared for a strike again. This time the UFO union has called on the flight attendants of Lufthansa and its subsidiary City Line to go on strike. There will be a strike in Frankfurt this Tuesday, and it will be Munich’s turn on Wednesday from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. According to Lufthansa, 400 flights are expected to be canceled here, affecting around 50,000 passengers.
Affected travelers will receive information about cancellations and rebooking options by email or in the Lufthansa app. Rebookings are free of charge; alternatively, passengers can have their tickets refunded.
