Gaza: Why radical Israelis want to build Jewish settlements again in the Gaza Strip

In the war against Hamas, Israel’s army has occupied almost the entire Gaza Strip. This is a historic opportunity for the radical settler movement to re-establish the illegal settlements there that were evacuated in 2005. But not all former Gaza settlers are convinced by the idea.

“The Gaza Strip is part of Israel and belongs to the Jewish people,” says Rabbi Kobi Bornstein and invites people into the small exhibition. On the walls hang pictures of a lost idyll: exuberant young women jumping from sand dunes. Sunsets on the beach. Rows of orange tiled roofs against the blue Mediterranean Sea. “For 35 years, life thrived in Gush Katif,” says Bornstein. “We must never forget that.”
