Gaza War: USA begins building a port off the coast of Gaza

The US military has deployed off the coast of… Gaza Strip Construction of a temporary port to deliver relief supplies has begun. US military ships were involved, said Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder. Realistically, the port should be operational at the beginning of May. In the meantime, Ryder said, we are continuing to work with the international community to bring aid to the Gaza Strip through other means.

The Israeli army said it would provide logistics and security support for the American initiative, which includes the construction of the floating pier.

In view of an impending humanitarian catastrophe in the coastal area, the US government announced at the beginning of March that it would build a temporary port. Food, water and medicine are to be brought into the war zone via the pier.

At the time, it was said that there were plans to build a floating pier off the coast where commercial ships carrying relief supplies could dock. The goods should then be transferred to other ships and brought to a floating dam where they will be unloaded.

Terrorists apparently attacked the construction site with grenades

Shortly before Ryder’s announcement, Israeli media reported an attack on the construction site for a humanitarian project in the north of the Gaza Strip. As the spokesman confirmed, a few grenades were fired where the relief supplies were supposed to arrive. This had no impact on the construction plans and happened before the US military began construction. Ryder made it clear again that there were no plans for US forces to enter the Gaza Strip itself. It is still unclear how the relief supplies will be distributed locally.
