“Significant progress” in Gaza ceasefire negotiations
Is there finally a breakthrough in the negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza? According to a TV report, the chances of this are apparently good. Israel and Hamas agree on several controversial points.
Accordingly, the delegations from Qatar and Hamas left the Egyptian capital. They would “return within two days to finalize the terms of the agreement,” Al-Kahera News reported. According to the broadcaster’s information, the US and Israeli delegations are also leaving Cairo “in the next few hours.” The consultations are expected to continue within the next 48 hours, the report added.
Weeks of deadlock in ceasefire negotiations in Gaza: Israel and Hamas accuse each other
Negotiations on a ceasefire and hostage releases brokered by the USA, Egypt and Qatar have been stalled for weeks. Hamas and Israel accuse each other of obstructing the indirect talks.
Hamas triggered the war on October 7th with its brutal attack on Israel. Fighters from Hamas, which the EU and the USA classify as a terrorist organization, and other militant Palestinian groups invaded Israeli towns and carried out massacres of civilians. According to Israeli information, they killed around 1,170 people and kidnapped around 250 people as hostages to the Gaza Strip. About 130 of them are still being held, and more than 30 of them are presumed dead.

In response to the attack, Israel launched a massive military operation in the Gaza Strip, initially primarily in the north of the Palestinian territory, then in the city of Khan Yunis, which is considered a Hamas stronghold. According to Hamas’ latest figures, which cannot be independently verified, more than 33,100 people were killed.
