Anyone who earns more than 75,000 euros per year should pay tax on the one-off government payment from December. According to the SPD, this was decided by the Economic Committee of the Bundestag. Group Vice Post praises this as socially fair.
The relief planned for December for advance payments for gas and district heating bills should now be taxable for higher incomes of around EUR 75,000 a year. This was decided by the leading Economic Committee of the Bundestag, said SPD Deputy Group Leader Achim Post of the Reuters news agency.
“Clear Line of Justice”
“By taking over the gas deductions in December, the federal government relieved citizens and companies by around nine billion euros. The traffic light coalition agreed today that very high incomes have to pay tax on this relief,” said Post. He spoke of a clear line of justice that would be drawn in as a result.
This follows the recommendation of the Gas Price Commission and creates a socially just balance “in order to support small and medium-sized incomes in particular – because they are the ones who feel the rising energy prices most clearly in their own wallets,” says Post.
The deduction should be taxable for taxpayers who pay the solidarity surcharge with the settlement of the providers and administrators for the assessment period 2023 at the earliest, according to the amendment decision of the committee.
So far, it was only planned that the relief planned from March 2023 through the gas price brake for higher incomes should be taxable. The law for taking over the payments on account for gas and district heating is to be passed by the Bundestag on Thursday.
