Garden sculptures turn out to be real Egyptian artifacts – panorama

Here a sofa cushion in Moroccan style, there a few tea lights arranged around a ceramic vase, and your cozy home is ready. When it comes to decorating, there are hardly any limits to the aesthetic requirements. This is the only way to explain the raison d’être of the Asian waving cat made from cheap plastic. Mostly painted gold, she tirelessly rocks her paw, which has been bumped by a draft, back and forth. The lucky charm from Japan undoubtedly sends a well-intentioned message: The constant waving should bring happiness and prosperity into the apartment, but the figure – like almost all decorative items – tends to catch dust.

A decoration has actually brought a bit of prosperity to a family from Sudbury in the east of England. Fifteen years ago they had paid a few hundred pounds for figures that looked like Egyptian and have been decorating the terrace with them ever since. Because of a move, the owners wanted to sell the weathered sculptures to other decoration enthusiasts.

But even before the auction, the auction house discovered that the two sculptures were ancient Egyptian artifacts around 5000 years old. In the end, the family was not only completely surprised at the treasure they had decorated their garden with, but also richer by 195,000 pounds (the equivalent of 230,000 euros). A scrutinizing look at the waving cat in your own living room could be worthwhile. Who knows whether the cheap plastic won’t turn out to be pure gold in the end.
