Gard and Hérault placed on orange rain-flood vigilance

Gard and Hérault are placed on orange rain-flood alert on Tuesday, according to Météo-France, which predicts an intensification of rain in the South-East. The rains in Hérault began in the morning and will persist all day, extending towards the Cévennes but without stormy appearance, their intensity remaining moderate, according to the public establishment.

They will strengthen at the end of the night and Wednesday morning in the two departments, in particular on the relief and the first Cevennes foothills. These rains will not be very mobile in places, with accumulations of up to 80 mm per hour, especially in the late afternoon and evening, specifies the forecaster in his latest bulletin.

The episode should continue the following night, shifting slightly towards the east of the Cévennes, with a total accumulation which could be around 150 to 200 mm in the Cévennes and their foothills. Peaks of 250 mm are possible, or even a little more very locally, with the plains remaining sheltered a priori.

Some light precipitation elsewhere

Elsewhere, some light precipitation is expected over Brittany and Normandy. The easterly wind will be noticeable over the northern half with gusts of up to 60 km/h on the coasts. The southeast wind will be strong in the southern third, 60-80 km/h in peaks in Occitanie, on the PACA coast and the Basque Country, up to 90-100 km/h on the relief of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques then across the entire Pyrenees the following night.

Minimum temperatures will be cool over a large northeastern quarter with some frost possible in the Grand Est region. Temperatures will be much milder in the southern third under the clouds. In the afternoon in the South-West, they will reach 24 to 29 degrees, 20 to 25 in the central part of the country. In the northern third, it will be between 14 and 19 degrees, and finally in the South-East it will be 17 to 23 degrees.
