Garching – Geothermal energy as a driver for the heat transition around Munich – Munich district

Thomas Hamacher, Professor for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems at the Technical University of Munich, attributes geothermal energy to an important role in the energy transition in the Munich region. In his opinion, geothermal energy is a safe bet for the next 20 years.

Thomas Hamacher is a professor for renewable and sustainable energy systems at the Technical University (TU) Munich in Garching and one of the project coordinators of the “Geothermie-Allianz Bayern”, a large-scale research network to which scientists from the TU Munich, the Friedrich-Alexander -University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, the University of Bayreuth, the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich and the Munich University of Applied Sciences. He ascribes an important role to geothermal energy in the energy transition in the Munich region.
