Garching – cyclist rams car door – district of Munich

A 63-year-old cyclist suffered serious head injuries in a traffic accident in Garching on Wednesday. According to the police report, he was riding his bike on Römerhofweg in Garching at around 11.30 a.m. when a 70-year-old driver who had parked on the right edge of the Römerhofweg opened the driver’s door to get out – just as the cyclist was at his height was. The 63-year-old, who was not wearing a hard hat, hit the driver’s door and fell onto the road. He suffered such severe head injuries that the ambulance service took him to a hospital for intensive medical treatment. There was material damage to the vehicles amounting to several thousand euros.
