Garching: articulated lorry blocked the Munich-North motorway junction – Munich district

Because the driver at the wheel collapsed, a semi-trailer truck left the roadway at the Munich-North motorway junction on Thursday morning. According to the police, the 63-year-old professional driver from Poland wanted to change from the A 9 to the A 99 in the direction of Salzburg at around 9.30 a.m. Due to a medical emergency, he left the lane with his truck and broke through the guardrail there.

After first aid by paramedics, the driver was flown by helicopter to a Munich clinic. A large contingent of surrounding fire brigades took care of securing and stabilizing the fully loaded articulated lorry. Because this threatened to fall down the slope and onto the transition from the A 99 in the west to the A 9 in the direction of Nuremberg, the two sections of the motorway junction had to be closed. In addition to several fire brigades, the Hohenbrunn motorway maintenance department was on duty. The rescue efforts lasted until the afternoon.
