Significantly more visitors and greater international importance: At the end of this year’s Gamescom, the organizers drew a positive balance. The fair remains “the world’s largest games event”.

The organizers of the world’s largest video and computer games fair, Gamescom, have drawn positive conclusions from this year’s edition in Cologne. The number of visitors has increased by 55,000 to 320,000 compared to 2022. The previous high was reached in 2019 with 373,000, which was followed by a corona-related break in attendance, during which Gamescom only took place online. The organizers particularly emphasized that the number of trade visitors had risen by a quarter to a good 31,000. Half of them came from abroad.

“Gamescom is and will remain the world’s largest games event,” said Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse. “Gamescom has made another big leap forward,” added Felix Falk, Managing Director of game, the association of the German games industry. Above all, the international importance has increased.

The games industry has been growing for years, but German developers only play a minor role. The industry is said to have great potential in times of digitization, especially since its developments could also provide impetus in other areas of the economy, such as with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual realities (VR).
