More than ever, fans of the Netflix series “Stranger Things” have to prepare for dark times – and for some deaths of a loved one?

Is that a good or a bad omen? Among the series creators and the stars of “Stranger Things”, the forthcoming fourth installment has apparently earned the nickname as the “Game of Thrones” season. This is reported by the US site “Entertainment Weekly”. And if the series adaptation of George RR Martin’s (73) bestseller series is known for one thing, then for the sudden and difficult to bear deaths of fan favorites – the Red Wedding sends its regards.

But “Stranger Things” will also be similar to the fantasy series in other ways: At the beginning of season four, the most important characters are scattered in all directions and first have to find each other again.

A nightmare slasher as another role model

The fact that the fourth season, which was split into two parts, will be darker than ever before indicated already the recently released first trailer to the new episodes. In the final scene, the clip also features what appears to be the new main villain of season four. Contrary to the previous monsters from the parallel world, the new evil this time has a very human body and is a little reminiscent of the Night King from “Game of Thrones” – another reminiscence?

The Duffer brothers Matt and Ross, who are producing the series, have also hinted that many a Hawkins resident could die: “We thought it would be a good year for the [Protagonisten] into a ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’-like horror movie.”

The cult series is notorious for rarely escaping Scarface Freddy Krueger. How fitting, then, that Freddy himself will stop by in the fourth season of “Stranger Things”: For a split second, “Nightmare” icon Robert Englund (74) can be seen in the trailer – once again with a disfigured face. As for his part, it is known that he plays a murderer named Victor Creel who has been in a psychiatric facility for decades…

The end is in sight

The first part of the new episodes will be available on Netflix from May 27th. The second part will follow on July 1st. It is now known that the series will have a final fifth season.
