Mourning for John Stahl: The actor who played Rickard Karstark in the HBO series “Game of Thrones” has died at the age of 68.

As reported by the online portal “Deadline”, among others, the actor died on March 2nd. This was confirmed by his agent Amanda Fitzalan Howard, who in a statement described Stahl as “an actor of remarkable ability and a fixture of Scottish theater”. “He died on March 2, 2022 at the [schottischen] Isle of Lewis and is survived by his wife Jane Paton.

John Stahl played Rickard Karstark in Game of Thrones

Stahl took over the role of Lord Rickard Karstark in the hit series “Game of Thrones” from actor Steven Blount and impersonated him in seasons two and three until he died in the series. Before that, Stahl, who studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, was best known for his role as Tom “Inverdarroch” Kerr on the long-running Scottish soap opera Take the High Road. The actor starred on the series from 1982 until the end of the series in 2003.

His last role was in the Christmas film “A Castle for Christmas” opposite Brooke Shields. The film was released last year on the Netflix streaming service.

In addition to acting, he also devoted himself to the theater, often working with the National Theater of Scotland, which found touching words on Twitter: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the death of John Stahl,” wrote the theater. “We were fortunate to work with John on Mary Stuart and The James Plays. His passing is a great loss to the industry and we will miss him dearly.”
