The drama “Anatomy of a Case” won in several categories at the European Film Awards. A German actress also received a trophy.

At the European Film Awards The legal thriller “Anatomy of a Case,” about a writer suspected of murder, won Berlin in several categories.

The drama by French filmmaker Justine Triet won the award for best European film of the year in Berlin, as well as awards for directing and screenplay. The German actress Sandra Hülser (45) won best actress for her leading role in “Anatomy of a Case”. The film, which has been in cinemas since November, also received a trophy for best editing – the award was announced before the gala.

The Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen was named best actor for his performance in the film “Bastards”, the 58-year-old was connected via video. The German actor Christian Friedel (44), who plays the Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höß in “The Zone of Interest”, was also nominated in the category.

The European Film Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in the industry. The approximately 4,600 members of the film academy were able to vote on award winners in a number of categories, similar to the Oscars in the USA. Last year, the satire “Triangle of Sadness” about a luxury cruise was named best European film.

British actress Vanessa Redgrave (“Blow Up”) was honored for her life’s work. The Hungarian film director Béla Tarr (“Sátántangó”) received the honorary award from the president and board of the academy. And the Spanish director Isabel Coixet (“The Secret Life of Words”) was honored for her contributions to world cinema. The European Film Prize is usually awarded alternately in Berlin and another European city.
