In other words, democratic states that do not line up with the G7 when it comes to sanctions against Russia. But they are economically important or at least currently chair regional groups of states. The hope behind this is probably to get them to at least stop circumventing western sanctions.
Help for emerging and developing countries
Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized on the first day of the summit that the G7 group opposed the Kremlin chief Putin as a closed community. Yesterday, the G7 group promised the emerging and developing countries investments in infrastructure – US President Biden spoke of 600 billion dollars. The main aim is to counteract the growing influence of China in the southern part of the world.
However, this program comes too late for the current impending hunger crisis. Concrete aid commitments from the G7 countries are expected today. There should also be time to talk about climate protection, health and energy security.
