G7 Meeting: Why the Forum of Developed Countries is More Important Than Ever – Opinion

How often has the West been declared dead, how often has the G7 been declared obsolete – a club of industrialized countries that no longer have any solutions to offer in a globalized world; that does not do justice to the changing power relations of the present; who live in the past. The attack by Russian President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine exposed a fundamental misunderstanding that also underlay German Russia policy for decades: close economic ties do not rule out autocracies starting wars that cause them massive economic damage and other things promise no profit, at least when measured against reason, which is just as wrongly held to be universal.
