Furth im Wald: A body is exhumed in the Upper Palatinate – Bavaria

A carer presses a pillow on the face of a senior, a colleague prevents the worst. The man is arrested. The investigators then roll over the files of the nursing home – and may find another case.

Because a nurse is said to have pressed a pillow on the face of a resident of a retirement home with the intention of killing, investigators had the body of a former resident exhumed in Furth im Wald on Tuesday. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested last week, according to the Regensburg public prosecutor. The man has since been taken to a district hospital for mental health problems. Apart from the two cases, there are currently no further investigations in this connection.

A person in charge of the facility in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham reported to the police: On the evening of February 1, the trained nurse tried to suffocate a senior in his room by pressing a pillow on his head. However, this was noticed and prevented by a colleague. The home immediately fired the man; According to the public prosecutor’s office, the 24-year-old has been working in the facility for around two years. The police officers therefore also checked past deaths.

In the case of an 80-year-old woman who died last year, the investigators were taken aback: “When the body was found, the accused and two other assistants were present, and he behaved extremely suspiciously,” said the press spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office , Thomas Rauscher. However, it is completely open whether the woman whose body has now been dug up died an unnatural death at all, stressed Rauscher. In contrast to the pillow attack, there is no urgent suspicion against the accused nurse in this case. There are also no further inconsistencies in the other deaths, as Rauscher explained. “The lady is the only case in which we are specifically investigating.”

The 24-year-old was initially taken into custody on February 8 on suspicion of attempted murder. “In the meantime, based on a psychiatric opinion, there are indications that the accused may not have been fully culpable for the crime he is charged with,” explained the public prosecutor’s office. The arrest warrant was therefore converted into a placement order.
