Fürth: 59-year-old critically injured in a knife attack – Bavaria

A 59-year-old was critically injured in a knife attack in downtown Fürth on Saturday. By Sunday he was no longer in mortal danger, a police spokesman said. A 56-year-old is said to have stabbed the man in front of a bakery on Saturday morning. Patrol officers who were nearby took care of the 59-year-old. Then he came to a hospital.

The 56-year-old alleged perpetrator was arrested by the officials on site and without resistance, it was said. The suspected murder weapon was also secured. According to initial findings, the 56-year-old was in an exceptional psychological situation. An Islamist or political motive can therefore be ruled out. It was not yet clear whether the men knew each other.

The 56-year-old, who is under legal supervision, should be brought before an investigating judge on Sunday, the spokesman said. He is charged with attempted homicide. The judge then has to decide whether the suspect needs to go to a specialist clinic. According to the police, the public prosecutor’s office in Nuremberg-Fürth has submitted an application for temporary accommodation.
