George Miller’s action-adventure “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is set to have its first screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

The action film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. This is reported by the British newspaper “The Guardian”. The prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road” will be in German cinemas on May 23rd. The Cannes International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 14 to 25, 2024.

First trailer: Anya Taylor-Joy as young Furiosa

The first trailer for the film by director George Miller (79) was released in December. In the action film, “Damengambit” star Anya Taylor-Joy (27) embodies the young Furiosa. The adventure film is set to take place 45 years after the collapse of civilization. A time that we know from all four “Mad Max” films with Mel Gibson (67) and Tom Hardy (46). As was previously known, the prequel spans 15 years.

In “Furiosa” the main character is kidnapped from the safety of the Green Land by the warlord Dementus. The role of the villain is played by Chris “Thor” Hemsworth (40). Immortan Joe, the main antagonist from “Fury Road,” can also be seen briefly in the trailer. In the prehistory he fights with Dementus for supremacy in the desert.

Will the prequel be as successful as “Mad Max: Fury Road”?

“Mad Max: Fury Road” also premiered at the Cannes Festival in 2015. The action spectacle won six Oscars and grossed $380 million worldwide.

The full line-up for this year’s film festival will be officially announced in April. There is already speculation that new films by Jacques Audiard (71), Andrea Arnold (62) and Francis Ford Coppola (84) could be shown. This year’s jury is led by Greta Gerwig (40).
