Actor Fritz Wepper, who became nationally known as an assistant in “Derrick” or through films such as “A Crook of God”, is going on his last journey. The star recently died at the age of 82. As it became known, Susanne Kellermann’s husband is said to have fallen asleep peacefully. However, an unwanted guest was present at his funeral service, which took place in Munich on April 10th.

Decades of friendship between Herzsprungs and Weppers
The AZ knows: There was a very specific reason why Ms. Engel (formerly Herzsprung) was not invited. The Wepper and Herzsprung families have been friends for decades. Back then, the Weppers and the Herzsprungs even celebrated a double wedding. After the marriages of Angela and Fritz Wepper and Barbara and Bernd Herzsprung collapsed, the men and women maintained a separate, close friendship.

Barbara Engel not invited: “You are not on the list”
Barbara Engel walked through the doors of the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday afternoon, unaware that she would have to leave the church again a short time later. “I showed my ID and said: ‘I would like to see Bernd Herzsprung and my daughters.’ And then they said: ‘You’re not on the list. And you’re not invited,'” Engel complains to RTL.

The AZ knows: there were even discussions afterwards. But they stood firm: Barbara Engel was an unwanted guest at Fritz Wepper’s funeral service. The 71-year-old, who had traveled from Berlin to Munich especially for Wepper’s farewell, was turned away. But Engel still showed up at the Wepper family grave.
Fritz Wepper was buried in the Winthir cemetery in the afternoon. Afterwards we went to the farewell dinner in Kuffler’s Seehaus in the English Garden.
And Barbara Engel? The shame of being rejected has affected her. Nevertheless, she still lights a candle for Fritz Wepper. She knew the late TV star for 50 years…
