Funding program for more charging points started – Bavaria

The state government wants to promote the expansion of the charging infrastructure for e-cars with a funding program. The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Thursday that a corresponding funding program started at the beginning of November. It runs until the end of this year.

In this first step, three million euros are made available, Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) is quoted in the communication. Accordingly, the procurement and construction of new charging points is funded, with municipalities, companies and private individuals alike able to submit an application. However, the charging point must be publicly accessible; In addition to the individual charging station, so-called charging hubs, which offer connections for several vehicles, are also conceivable. In addition, only green electricity may be used. In return, the Free State participates in the financing.

According to the ministry, the Free State intends to invest a further 20 million euros in the fueling infrastructure for e-cars by 2023. The so-called “Charging Atlas” – an online overview map for charging stations in the Free State – currently shows almost 13,800 charging points. The current funding program is intended as a supplement to the federal program. The construction of more charging points is also to be promoted because of the sharp rise in the number of registrations for e-cars: The Federal Motor Transport Authority reported the registration of around 30,500 new electric vehicles on German roads for October – which made up 17.1 percent of all registrations this month.
