Funding for climate-friendly new building increased

The news from the construction industry has been mostly negative for the past few months, and the number of orders for new buildings has fallen significantly. The federal government is now increasing the funding for promoting climate-friendly new construction.

Anyone who builds a new house in an energy-efficient manner, for example through special insulation measures, can apply for low-interest loans from the state-owned KfW bank. Loans of up to EUR 150,000 per apartment are possible.

The corresponding program is apparently being used actively and is therefore to be increased by a good 400 million euros – the federal government has informed the budget committee of the Bundestag about this.

The construction industry is in a prolonged slump, while the downward trend in housing construction has continued unabated for more than a year.

Without the increase in funding, there would have been a risk of a halt to funding in just a few weeks. A halt to the relevant subsidy programs would – to quote – “destroy confidence in the seriousness of the federal government’s climate policy and housing policy goals.”

Geywitz: funding programs by the end of the year for sure

Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz explained to the ARD Capital Studio: “We said that the support program for climate-friendly new construction and the promotion of home ownership for families are guaranteed until the end of the year – we have now achieved that.”

The CSU budget politician Florian Ossner, on the other hand, considers the increase of 400 million to be window dressing; a significant improvement in the promotion of new construction is not achieved.
