The heart of the full-frame camera Leica SL3 is a high-resolution BSI CMOS full-format sensor with 60 megapixels, which should enable a dynamic range of up to 15 aperture stops. The sensor is also image stabilized, which allows longer handheld exposure times.
Intelligent autofocus and fast continuous shooting
The SL3 features an autofocus system that combines phase detection, depth detection and contrast detection. This means the camera can focus quickly and precisely even in difficult lighting conditions. Subject recognition should also make it easier to focus on selected subjects such as eyes, animals or vehicles.
With up to 15 frames per second at full resolution, the Leica SL3 is also equipped for demanding continuous shooting. The buffer memory is sufficiently large with a capacity of 8 gigabytes.
Versatile video functions and optimized ergonomics
The Leica SL3 can record videos up to 8K at 29.97 frames per second and supports the H.265 and Apple ProRes codecs. According to Leica, the tilting 3-inch touchscreen and the electronic viewfinder make it easier to compose the shots.
According to the manufacturer, the camera is lighter and more compact than its predecessors and should fit better in the hand. The new, reduced menu design is intended to ensure a clear structure and easy navigation.
Robust housing and versatile connection options
The weatherproof housing of the Leica SL3 is made of magnesium and aluminum and has a synthetic leather surface. In terms of interfaces, the SL3 offers, among other things, an ISO accessory shoe, a timecode interface, HDMI, USB-C and connections for external audio equipment.
The body of the Leica SL3 costs 6,800 euros. Added to this are the costs for the lenses.
