Fuel shortage: Gabriel Attal finds it “curious to launch preventive strikes” and assures that the government “is doing everything to solve the problem this week”

The Budget Minister, Gabriel Attal, spoke on Monday morning on France Inter about the fuel shortage which affects 30% of the country’s stations.

Invited a few hours before the presentation of the state budget before the National Assembly, Gabriel Attal of course mentioned the shortage affecting a good part of the country’s service stations. According to the Ministry of Energy Transition, 30% of stations are affected by a total or partial shortage of fuel on Monday.

On France Inter, Gabriel Attal therefore spoke of “a difficult weekend for the thousands or even millions of French people” and the Minister of the Budget said “to be aware of the great difficulties that these shortages generate”.

However, the minister assured that the government “was really doing everything so that the situation could be resolved within the week”.

An action which consists, according to Gabriel Attal, “to put pressure so that social dialogue can move forward since I remind you that the heart of this blockage is due to the CGT which wants to anticipate discussions on wages which were to take place in November” .

And Gabriel Attal to specify that he did not understand “this preventive strike”. “I always found it curious to go on preventive strikes even though Total announced that it was going to increase wages. It is better to start discussing and then to strike according to the results”, added the minister.

Among the other actions of the government to help resolve this situation as quickly as possible, Gabriel Attal mentioned the release of strategic reserves when necessary.
