As you may know, Google is working on another operating system besides Android called Fuchsia. Maybe it will be built to replace the former at some point – but until then we will only see it in use in the smart displays from the Google Nest Hub series.
In principle, fuchsia does not change the user experience
The larger Nest Hub Max has also recently become available at least in the preview channel with an update to the new software. However, nothing changes in terms of operation, only under the hood. With the most recent update, the Nest Hub Max gets an exclusive feature compared to the smaller models.
If your Nest Hub Max lists version 6.20211109.1.3166240 for Fuchsia in the settings, a new section should appear in the settings. You can read reports from here 9to5Google according to make various configurations regarding the built-in Bluetooth connection.
Establish Bluetooth connections directly from the smart display
On the one hand you should be able to connect new devices to the Nest Hub Max via Bluetooth, on the other hand you should be able to use the screen directly as a Bluetooth speaker. This could avoid the detour via Wi-Fi and the usual Google Cast protocol or via the Google Home app.
It’s a bit odd that the Nest Hub Max is now getting this feature, while leaving out the smaller two models of the Nest Hub from the first and second generation. The Nest Hub Gen 1 was first supplied with fuchsia last year. It is not known when or if the Bluetooth menu will be available on all Nest Hubs at all – given the technical requirements that are met, it is difficult to assume.
