“Frustration doesn’t get us anywhere” – politics

The states had set themselves major goals in the fight against poverty and hunger, for the climate and the environment. Now it’s half time. The results, says Development Minister Svenja Schulze, are worrying.

Svenja Schulze has the United Nations’ 17 sustainability goals almost constantly in mind. They are distributed as seating cubes in the development minister’s office. They adorn her tablet as a screen saver and she wears a brooch with them on her lapel. Enacted in 2015, the “SDGs” were intended to make the world a better place by 2030. But the world is a long way from that, Schulze also complains. This Monday she is traveling to the SDG summit in New York – for the interim review.
