It is the image of social life over the last few centuries, which still has a lasting impact on us in the 21st century. But in addition to the numerous, truly extremely admirable male personalities, more and more women have also been able to achieve unusual things in recent years.
It Girls: More than just pretty to look at
Just think of Marie Curie, the founder of radiochemistry, or chemist Rosalind Franklin, who discovered the structure of DNA. But you don’t have to be a physicist or a chemist to make a big difference with your existence. This is proven by the numerous It girls of the last century, who shaped fashion, the image of women and society itself with their existence and appearance. Without these women we wouldn’t be where we are today – even if they often have a reputation as untalented, pretty-looking dolls.
The term “It Girl” in its original use means: “girl with that certain something” and was first used in the 1920s in connection with silent film star Clara Bow. It is only today that the predominantly negative connotation that associates “it girls” with the prejudice of “being famous for being incompetent” dominates.
