The daughter wears her silent protest on her right shoulder. A jute bag hangs there, printed with a green chestnut leaf. It is the symbol of her hometown of Kyiv. Spring, says her mother, is the best time of the year there. When the sun shines warmly on your skin, the chestnut trees bloom and the streets come alive again.
