Stars, glamour, and 18 programs from 12 countries divided into the fiction and documentary and current affairs categories, including three world premieres, seven international and two unreleased French ones! The Monte-Carlo Television Festival unveiled this Thursday the enticing line-up for its 62nd edition, which will take place in the Principality from June 16 to 20, during a press conference at the Brach Hotel in Paris. “The Monte-Carlo Television Festival is the first festival of its type in Europe and the only one to combine the essential genres of fiction, documentary and information. This year, we again have a fabulous guest list of top talent, professionals and leaders from all over the world. We look forward to seeing you all in Monaco in June,” said Laurent Puons, President and CEO of the event.
“Shelter”, based on Harlan Coben’s bestsellers
The opening of the festival at the Grimaldi Forum will be marked by the world premiere screening of Shelteran Amazon Prime Video series, following the opening ceremony attended by executive producers and directors Harlan Coben and Allen MacDonald and actors Jaden Michael and Constance Zimmer.
“This series is the adaptation of the first volume of a trilogy which features the hero Mickey Bolitar, who will delve into a world of conspiracies, lies and the darkest aspects of humanity… And that’s through this prism that we deal with a sensitive subject, which we are proud to highlight on Amazon Prime Video, child trafficking, ”explains Rola Bauer, who directs original English productions for Amazon Studios. Shelter is expected on Jeff Bézos’ platform this summer.
Ricky Whittle and Lena Situations, emcees
Series star Ricky Whittle American Godsand videographer and influencer Lena Situations will present the closing ceremony of the festival, in the presence of a large number of talented actors and important professionals in the sector and members of the fiction and news-documentary juries.
During this ceremony, American screenwriter and television producer Howard Gordon will receive the Nymphe d’Honneur, which will reward his entire career. We owe him many episodes of The X-Files, 24h Chrono And Homeland. Recently he created Accusedan anthology renewed for one season in which each episode begins with the defendant in a courtroom, and tells the story of his crime and the outcome of the trial.
John Goodman, president of the fiction jury
American actor John Goodman succeeds Neal McDonough (Desperate Housewives, Legends of Tomorrow) in the role of the president of the fiction jury. With forty-three years of career in Hollywood and some 120 films and series to the clock, he made himself known to the general public thanks to the Roseanne series and his collaborations with the Coen brothers in Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski or O’Brother. Winner of a Golden Globe and an Emmy Award (Roseanne, Alpha House, Dancing on the Edge), he is currently starring in the spin-off of Roseane, The Conners.
At his side in the fiction jury to award the 2023 Golden Nymphs, the Swedish Camilla Rydbacken, vice-president of Scripted Content, Viaplay Sweden, the Italian actress-presenter Francesca Chillemi, the American Frank Spotnitz (X-Files, The Man in the High Castle), screenwriter, executive producer and CEO of Big Light Productions, the German Marcus Ammon, managing director of content at Bavaria Fiction and the Australian actor Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Raised by Wolves).
Documentary filmmaker Tom Jennings, American producer and director, winner of a Peabody Award and an Emmy Award, will chair the news and documentary jury. He will be supported by Jeanette Larsson, editor-in-chief and producer at Swedish television SVT, Spanish presenter-author-lecturer José Carlos Gallardo, Aïda Touihri, French journalist and presenter at RMC STORY and British presenter, creator and author- Ghanaian Patrick Aryee.
The official fiction selection
Nine productions were selected in the 2023 official selection of the 2023 Golden Nymphs competition in the fiction category, including seven series and two singles. The Japanese series fence, presented in world premiere, follows the investigation of a journalist around the accusations of sexual assault of a black Japanese woman by an American military officer in Okinawa. The Danish series Chorus Girlspresented as a world premiere, features eight showgirls in the Copenhagen of the 1970s.
British-Australian co-production Ten Pound Pomspresented in international preview, tells how a group of Britons left to settle in Australia with 10 pounds in their pocket in the mid-1950s. The American miniseries carried by Natasha Lyonne (Orange Is the New Black, Russian doll) Poker face features Charlie who has the extraordinary gift of determining when someone is lying.
The Israeli series Trust No One, presented in world preview, places Yehuda Levi in the shoes of the director of an intelligence agency accused of having been at the origin of a leak in the field of cybersecurity. European co-production The Seed, world premiere, relates the investigation into the disappearance of a journalist and activist in Norway. The Spanish series Miropresented in world premiere, looks back on the life of the famous painter Joan Miró,
The unitary The Colossus with Feet of Claybroadcast on May 4 on TF1, sees Eric Cantonna play a former rugby player struggling with the trauma he experienced as a child. The Warrant: Breaker’s Lawan American western led by Neal McDonough.
The first episode of season 2 of the series feels good Every One Is Doing Great will be presented out of competition in the presence of two former Scott Brothers, Stephen Colletti and James Lafferty, accompanied by Alexandra Park and Cariba Heine. Josh Duhamel will present the film he directed and in which he plays Buddy Games: Spring Awakening. The first part of the bonusWith family titled “Un château en patrimoine” will also be previewed in the presence of the M6 soap opera team.
50 years of the “Fires de l’amour”
The festival will host a series of public events for the many fans in attendance. The cult American soap opera The Fires of Love will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Le Rocher and will be the subject of a meeting with the fans. Selfie sessions with the talents of the series Ici tout commence, autograph sessions with the casts of Productions Wolf (Law & Order, FBI And Chicago), or even with the stars of the soap opera Love glory and beauty (including Patrick Duffy), public lectures Behind The Scenes to divulge the secrets of the filming of the series Toulouse Lautrec high school, Such a great sun, Léo Matteï, miners’ brigade, The Lord of the Rings: the rings of powerbroadcast on Amazon Prime Video and from the show Dance with the stars.
An exceptional exhibition of historical photos from the Monte-Carlo Festival will mark the red carpet commemorating the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III, creator of the event in 1961. Finally, the official partner of the Festival, SLA Paris will once again organize a make-up animation for festival-goers.
The Monte-Carlo TV Festival will unveil the complete list of stars expected on the red carpet next Friday… The event has also signed a partnership with Apple TV+.
