From Helsinki to Naples: the most beautiful cafés in Europe

Coffee houses are places to slow down. Adonis Malamos, himself the owner of a café in Mannheim, photographed the most beautiful places on a 60,000-kilometer journey through 20 European countries, where espresso, single-seaters or a bica are served in a particularly stylish ambience. The best shots are now in the illustrated book “The most beautiful cafés in Europe” appeared.
On the following pages we present some coffee houses with photos and captions from the new release.

Le Procope, Paris
The Café Procope in the Latin Quarter is one of the oldest and most renowned coffee houses in the world. Born in Sicily, Procopio dei Coltelli opened the first café in Paris in 1686 in what is now Rue de l’Ancienne Comédie and served guests a new product in addition to coffee: ice cream.
The coffee house became known in particular as the first literary café, as writers and philosophers of the Enlightenment such as Voltaire, Diderot, Hugo, Balzac and Rousseau regularly met here for discussions. The café is associated with the creation of the intellectual foundation of the French Revolution.
