Fritzbox 5590 Fiber: Router top model available for fiber optic connections

AVM starts selling the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber – its own top-of-the-range router model for all kinds of fiber optic connections (fiber-to-the-home, FTTH, fiber optics to the home). The Fritzbox 5590 Fiber is positioned above the 5530 model, but costs 290 instead of just under 190 euros.

The Fritzbox 5590 differs significantly from its cheaper brother in two respects: On the one hand, there are two USB ports (type A), each of which transmits 5 Gbit/s (USB 3.2 Gen 1, formerly known as USB 3.0) and can be used to connect Hard disk storage or printers are suitable. On the other hand, the router provides four instead of two MIMO streams, but unlike the Fritzbox 5530 Fiber, it cannot expand the channel from 80 to 160 MHz.

The bottom line is that both models transmit a maximum of 2.4 Gbit/s in the 5 GHz network. In the 2.4 GHz network, on the other hand, the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber is twice as fast with up to 1.2 Gbit/s. An upgrade to Wi-Fi 6E is still pending – the routers transmit in Wi-Fi 6 networks, but cannot yet open 6 GHz networks.

The scope of delivery of the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber also includes two plug-in modules for use in the SFP slot (Small Form-Factor Pluggable) – one each for active (Active Optical Network, AON) and passive networks (Passive Optical Network, PON) with transmission rates of maximum 1 Gbit/s. The Fritzbox 5590 Fiber is already prepared for XGS-PON up to 10 Gbit/s, but interested parties have to buy a suitable SFP+ module separately.

The Fritzbox 5590 Fiber connects a LAN host via its multigigabit Ethernet port with up to 2.5 Gbit/s, four others with 1 Gbit/s. A DECT base is also on board. However, there is no longer an ISDN S0 port.

The Fritzbox 5590 Cable carries a recommended price of 290 euros. Notebooksbilliger wants to deliver the router from mid-May 2022 The shop is already accepting pre-orders. The Fritzbox 5530 Cable is currently available from just under 190 euros.
