“Friends” scripts, thrown in the trash 25 years ago, sold for more than 25,000 euros at auction

Scripts from the fourth season of the series Friendsfound by chance in a trash can, were sold this Friday for more than 25,000 euros at auction in the United Kingdom, reports the BBC. A record sale for these scenarios from a cult episode of the series, “The One With Ross’s Wedding” in which the protagonists go to London for Ross’s wedding.

According to the British house Hanson Ross, in charge of this auction, buyers from all over the world “went crazy” when these scripts were put up for sale. It was ultimately an “international online buyer” who managed to acquire these documents, which had initially been estimated at 930 euros (800 pounds sterling).

“I could very well have thrown them away”

He is a former employee of the Fountain studios in Wembley (north-west London) where the final episodes of the fourth season of Friends, who got his hands on these original scripts in 1998, when he was still working on them. This person says she found these scripts in a trash can at the time, which she imagined had been abandoned by one of the six stars of the series.

“I remember wondering: which member of the cast could they belong to? », he tells the BBC. This former employee explains that he had carefully kept these scripts at home in a drawer. It was only 25 years later that the texts resurface. “When I cleared out my desk, I swept everything into a big cardboard box. I had forgotten that the scenarios were there. I could very well have thrown them away, but these scripts deserve to belong to a big fan of the series,” the former employee explains today.
