Fridays for Future calls for a global climate strike in Freiburg – Freiburg

The large demonstration begins on Friday, September 15th at 1 p.m. on the square of the Old Synagogue under the motto #EndFossilFuels. Thousands of participants are expected.

Fridays for Future is calling for the next demonstration. This is one of more than 200 actions nationwide and part of the global climate strike, which has the motto #EndFossilFuels. A large number of participants are again expected. After starting on the square of the Old Synagogue, the demo goes to the nearby Rempartstrasse and then to the parking lot on Stefan-Meier-Strasse. Traffic disruptions are expected on Friday afternoon.

Road traffic should be reduced

At the demo stations, Fridays for Future Freiburg says it wants to show on International Parking Day “that we have to significantly reduce traffic on the streets and finally use the spaces again for people instead of cars,” says Merlin Geburek from Fridays for Future quoted in a press release. Greta Waltenberg, the spokeswoman for the Freiburg branch of the climate protection organization, points out that the climate crisis is becoming more and more noticeable: “And yet the political decision-makers have no credible plan for consistent and socially just climate protection – neither nationwide nor locally here in Freiburg,” said Waltenberg.

After the protest event begins on the square of the Old Synagogue, the demo will move to Fahnenbergplatz – and will be divided: half will move across Friedrichstrasse to the Stefan-Meier-Strasse parking lot. The second half takes the route via Friedrichring across the old town to Rempartstrasse.
