Frenchman Thibaut Fromantin crowned glider aerobatic world champion

It’s high for Thibaut Fromantin! This Frenchman had to hang on for many years before obtaining, at the age of 32, the consecration of advanced aerobatics in a glider. Opposed to fierce competition, with 33 other experienced pilots in the running, he thus became world champion last Saturday in Torun (Poland). Glider aerobatics is a sport discipline where pilots perform acrobatic maneuvers in the air aboard a glider (without engine). In 2021, Thibaut Fromantin won the bronze medal at the Worlds won by his compatriot Charlie Levy-Louapre.

The Tourangeau then climbed on the second step of the podium in the 2022 edition, narrowly losing to the Czech Oliver Adamy. This year, this father of three children got the better of his opponents, after a first round concluded in fourth position. It was during the next two flights that Thibaut Fromantin made the difference to soar to the final victory.

A title that takes on a particular flavor since only a month ago, due to an unforeseen mechanical problem, the French team had to change gliders at a moment’s notice. The Hungarian selection was then generous in providing the Blues with an aircraft that allowed them to participate in the competition in Poland. With the happy outcome that we know for Thibaut Fromantin.
