The final

  • NOW: Iga Swiatek (POL/1) – Karolina Muchova (CZE)
+++ UPDATE HERE +++

16:26 Swiatek – Muchová 6:2, 3:2

Swiatek’s passing shot sails wide. 0:30 when the world number one serves. She stays focused, converts the point to 30:30 with a forehand winner. But then the Pole’s backhand goes wide and Muchová has breakball. And then she knocks the longline winner out from the baseline. The break comes out of nowhere, but it brings excitement back into the game. Everything open again in sentence two!

16:17: Swiatek – Muchová 6:2, 3:0

It’s only a break lead in set two, but it feels a lot more significant. Swiatek is now the better player here in every respect. Muchová urgently needs to come up with something if the match is not to be over very quickly.

16:12: Swiatek – Muchová 6:2, 2:0

It gets tight again on serve Muchová – after a completely unsuccessful smash, the Czech has two more breakballs against her. And then she twists the forehand. 2-0 Swiatek in set two.

“Almost flawless!” Swiatek easily wins the first set

15:57: Swiatek – Muchová 6:2

After a long return from Swiatek, Muchová makes the backhand mistake and has three more breakballs against him. And that is synonymous with set balls for Swiatek. And with the forehand against the running direction of her opponent, the Pole makes everything clear and scores 6:2.

15:48 Swiatek – Muchová 4:2

Muchová makes a strong save from a break ball. It goes several times over Debut, where Swiatek, among other things, convinces with a nice game on the net. But again and again Muchová intersperses barely recognizable stops. That’s her greatest strength so far today. With the passing shot, she still wins the game and keeps up in set one.

Too good! Swiatek counters Muchová

15:39: Swiatek – Muchová 4:1

Swiatek’s backhand longline flies wide. The defending champion has to go beyond debut. Then she twists the forehand and has breakball against her. It goes several times over debut. With a strong forehand, the Pole secured the service to make it 4:1.

15:29: Swiatek – Muchová 3:1

Annoying mistake by Muchová from the half field. The Czech only has to transform, but hits the forehand into the net. But she stays cool, scoring first with an ace and then a strong stop. She gets her first game win in this final.

15:21: Swiatek 2-0 Muchová

With two powerful returns, Swiatek forces her opponent to make mistakes and gets break chances. And then Muchová’s forehand lands out of bounds. 2:0 for Swiatek in the first round.

15:17: Swiatek 1-0 Muchová

The match begins with serve Swiatek. The favorite starts very confidently, plays with a great overview and dominates the rallies from the baseline. But then Muchová outsmarts her opponent twice with clever drop shots. After a return error by the Czech, it is 1:0 for the Pole.

INFO: Swiatek – Muchova

Regardless of the outcome of the tournament, Swiatek will remain number one in the world. Muchová finds himself in at least 16th place in the new world rankings from Monday. If she wins today, she would even be in the top ten.
