French illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempé is dead – culture

Jean-Jacques Sempé, the illustrator of the famous children’s stories about “little Nick”, is dead. He died at the age of 89, as the AFP news agency announced on Thursday evening, citing Sempé’s wife. The series, originally “Le Petit Nicolas”, was created more than 50 years ago in collaboration between Sempé and René Goscinny, the author of the Asterix books who died in 1977. Jean-Jacques Sempé left numerous albums and picture stories to posterity. Sempé was born on August 17, 1932 near Bordeaux. He published his first drawings as early as 1950, initially under a pseudonym.
