Napoleon’s headgear brings almost 2 million euros at auction

In France, a headgear belonging to Napoleon Bonaparte was auctioned for a record sum of 1.923 million euros. The bicorn hat made of felt was a trademark of the emperor. According to the Osénat auction house in Fontainebleau, the auction attracted collectors from all over the world. In addition to the hat, a lock of Napoleon’s hair and a handkerchief belonging to a collector were also auctioned. The auction house had estimated the headgear at 600,000 to 800,000 euros before the auction. It was not announced who bought the good piece. Napoleon is said to have owned around 120 similar hats during his time as ruler. One of them was auctioned off for more than 1.8 million euros in 2014.
