A92 motorway:Articulated lorry races unchecked into vans

Reading time: 1 min

The breakdown vehicle is probably unlit in the third lane when it is foggy. It was only by chance that the 51-year-old driver was uninjured. He is now under investigation on suspicion of causing a traffic hazard.

Only coincidence prevented worse things from happening when, in the early morning hours on Saturday, a semi-trailer truck crashed into a small van in dense fog on the A92 autobahn between the Freising-Süd junction and the airport autobahn triangle in the direction of Deggendorf. According to the current state of investigation, the van was parked in the right lane of the main lane due to a breakdown and probably without lighting and other safety devices. According to the police, the driver of the tractor-trailer realized this too late.

Fortunately, the 51-year-old driver of the pickup truck was outside his vehicle at the time of the accident, which is why he was uninjured. The impact caused deformation of the driver’s cab of the articulated lorry and massive deformation of the rear of the van. The force of the impact pushed the roof of the pickup truck into the driver’s cab of the trailer truck.

The motorway must be completely closed for a short time

The 57-year-old driver of the semitrailer suffered moderate facial injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to a hospital for further clarification of his injury. The damage to both vehicles is estimated at 55,000 euros. Because of the traffic accident and the subsequent salvage, two lanes of the three-lane main carriageway had to be closed at 7:30 a.m. Because of this and due to short-term full closures to carry out cleaning work, traffic was obstructed.

Investigations were initiated against the driver of the van at the scene of the accident on suspicion of endangering road traffic. In connection with the traffic accident, the Freising traffic police inspection is looking for witnesses on 08161/9520.
