Free condoms in pharmacies will be extended to minors, announces Emmanuel Macron

The president heard the questions from the associations. After announcing the 100% reimbursement of condoms in pharmacies for 18-25 year olds, Emmanuel Macron extended free access to minors, he said on Friday. “Banco, we will do it,” said the head of state in a tweet.

After the first announcement, “I was taken to task by several of you on the fact that many of our young minors had sexual relations and that they also had to be able to protect themselves, that they could have the same financial constraints,” he explains in the video. “We are going to make the teams work to be able to extend this measure to minors (…) I think it is a very good prevention policy to allow all young people to protect themselves”, he adds, taking up the word order “Get out covered”.

Condoms have already been reimbursed by Social Security on prescription from a doctor or midwife since December 10, 2018, an additional tool to fight against AIDS and sexually transmitted infections. The measure concerns the delivery of boxes of 6, 12 or 24 condoms in pharmacies, the Ministry of Health had then detailed.

The measure will be effective from January 2023. Two brands of male condoms, “Eden” and “Sortez Couverts!” », are currently covered up to 60% by health insurance, the remaining 40% being covered by complementary health insurance for those who have it.

In the video, Emmanuel Macron also indicates that, beyond HIV, free screening will be extended “to other pathologies, other viruses, because it is also our prevention policy”. “We will continue to strengthen our health prevention policy, regular diagnostics and screening at older ages, go further on vaccination against certain viruses. I am thinking of the papillomavirus, ”he adds.
