Usually, the app store charts in this country are made up of classics such as WhatsApp, Instagram, PayPal, Google Maps and, for some time, various Corona apps. But now a major German corporation is mixing up the list of the best and making it to the top. We’ll tell you what’s behind it.
Anyone who has a look at the app store charts on their smartphone from time to time knows that in addition to the typical social media apps, there are above all Google Maps, PayPal, CovPass and the luca app.
But every now and then there are outliers and apparently unknown apps outperform the established applications out of nowhere. This also includes the free app from a German food company, because the Kaufland app has been at the top of the German app store charts for several days.
But what is behind the sudden hype surrounding the Kaufland app?
Kauflandcard: customer card with discount promotions
Behind the run on the Kaufland app there is a simple but ingenious marketing strategy, as is already known, for example, from the food discounter Lidl. This also belongs to the Kaufland group of companies and offers with its Lidl Plus app for some time now all kinds of offers, coupons and promotions.
With the Kauflandcard, which was newly introduced at the end of October, such a system is now also available for customers of the Kaufland branches. You can get the customer card either on site in the branch or conveniently and digitally via the Kaufland app. There you will find weekly discount campaigns, coupons, competitions and loyalty points.
Practical: If you want to do without the analog paper receipt, you can also use a digital receipt via the app in the future.
In the Google Play Store is the Kaufland appunbeaten at the top and can now boast more than 5 million downloads. In the Apple App Store, the food company’s application is currently on the podium with second place.
The goal behind the app is arguably to have a similar loyalty program too Lidl Plus because that seems to be well received by the customers there. The products that are offered at reduced prices via the Lidl app are usually sold out quickly.
Other supermarket chains also rely on corresponding loyalty programs. One of the most famous is besides Lidl Plusprobably also Payback, which is used at the Rewe and Penny checkouts, for example.
