Fraudsters target net customers: money is taken away even though nothing has been purchased

The Netto app promises its users a range of attractive benefits, loyalty points and exclusive discounts. Since November, however, cases have become known in which unauthorized persons have made purchases using the discounter’s app. The purchases were billed via the PayPal payment service, which, however, denies customers buyer protection, reports “Born’s IT and Windows blog“.

Some users who have fallen victim to such fraud have reported in the PayPal forum and the short message service X. A user reports that he was notified by PayPal that he had made a purchase from Netto for 100 euros. However, the Netto market was two and a half hours away from his home. The person affected immediately reported the matter to the police, informed Netto about the incident and filed a buyer protection case with PayPal. Despite proof that the person concerned had not made a purchase at the Netto branch, PayPal refused a refund and closed the case on the grounds that there was no unauthorized access.
