Fraud trial in New York – A political verdict against Trump? – Opinion

In the fraud case against the ex-president, there is no one who feels harmed – and yet there is a draconian fine. Trump will use this to rightly dismiss the cases pending against him as witch hunts.

Many Democrats may be happy about the harsh New York verdict against Donald Trump, but it raises some questions, and not just in terms of European legal understanding. He is ordered to pay $355 million for fraud and is no longer allowed to conduct business in New York state for three years. This is an enormous punishment, financially anyway, but also symbolically, since Trump comes from New York. Everything he represents today is what he became in this city. One of the most important questions is: is this punishment proportionate? Short answer: no.
