The Dax picked up on its strong start to the year on Tuesday. The German benchmark index advanced 0.30 percent to 16,068.52 points in early trading.

The day before, the Dax had closed over 16,000 meters for the first time since the highs in November. Market participants justify the good mood in the stock market year that has just begun with the prospect that the new Omikron coronavirus variant should not have a stronger impact on the global economy.

“The more data are available, the more it becomes apparent that Omikron is very contagious, but does not result in correspondingly high hospital admissions,” wrote analyst Jeffrey Halley of the Oanda trading company. A recovery in the global economy therefore does not appear to be in danger.

For the MDax of medium-sized companies, it rose 0.47 percent to 35,654.41 points. The leading Eurozone index EuroStoxx 50 rose by 0.38 percent.
